Wii lose

Through a reliable source, I discovered that my local Target was getting 42 Wiis for launch day. A few people had lined up the night before, but nothing like for the PS3 launch. Feeling a little smug about knowing the number of Wiis, I was confident that showing up around an hour before opening would score me a Wii. Apparently, many people had a similar idea.

They started handing out tickets at around 7:12am. Looking at the line I knew I was cutting it close. As they got to my part of the line they informed us that they were out. Crap, I was number 44 when there were only 42 Wiis.

I got the bright idea of hitting the local K-mart, which is usually overlooked for such events. I appeared to first, with a few people lining up behind me. I told the story of Target, and heard that the K-mart in McKinleyville had opened 2 hours early to sell to the campers. An employee showing up for work told us that he thought he had 6 Wiis, with only 5 of us in line yet. There was only 10 minutes till they opened so everyone was in pretty high spirits. Around two minutes before they opened, another employee asked if we were waiting for the Wii. He informed us that they had also opened 2 hours early to sell to campers and were sold out. Crap.

No Wii for me on launch day. I'm going to hassle my Target insider about the next shipment.
