I'm rich with... luck

What a week. My fortune is improving. After scrounging some cash together, I finally upgraded my mother board and memory. Yes, I am finally using DDR RAM. What is the world coming to. Even better, I just got a used Epson Stylus Photo 1200 printer for free. It has some attitude, but nothing I shouldn't be able to fix. As if these things weren't great enough, It gets much better.

If you don't know what TiVo is, I feel pity for you. I've been lusting after one of these machines even before they were commercially available. There's never enough money, as usual, which has driven me to experiment with TiVo-like home-made solutions. Be it Freevo, or another open-source alternative, the experience just isn't the same. While talking to a co-worker of mine, my ears perked up upon hearing she had a crippled TiVo lying around the house. Having dreamed of owning such hardware, I've done my rounds of the hack sites. Knowing full well the potential of bringing these beasts back to life, I quickly jumped on the opportunity. She gracefully sold it to me for $20. Only TWENTY! I couldn't believe my good fortune. Before anyone curses me for taking advantage of someone, she was glad to part with it as she just upgraded to a Series 2. Hell, she was just happy it was going to a new TiVo-convert and a good home.
